Speak N Lead: HighSchoolers meet Leaders

What if your high schooler could sit down with a San Diego nonprofit director, city council member, or business founder—and learn to ask great questions, think on their feet, and build real professional connections? In Speak N Lead, students don't just practice public speaking in a vacuum. They interview three local leaders doing meaningful work in our community. Then they present what they learned to their peers and families. It's hands-on communication training that builds confidence AND expands their network before college. "What Makes This Different: You're Not Just Practicing—You're Connecting" Most public speaking programs have students give speeches to each other about random topics. Speak N Lead is different: Students will: -Research and prepare interview questions for three leaders -Conduct live interviews and practice active listening Learn professional communication and networking skills -Present key insights to the group and invited guests -Build connections that could lead to internships, mentorship, or college recommendations -Receive Certificate Limited to 8 students 8 week program on Wednesdays from January 14-March 11 from 6:15pm-7:15pm What youth will actually do: Weeks 1-2: Foundation: Learn interviewing techniques, body language, and how to craft questions that get past surface-level answers. Students choose which leader they want to research. Weeks 3-4: Interview Prep & Leader #1. Master vocal variety and stage presence. First guest leader visit—students conduct group interview. Weeks 5-6: Interview Leader #2 & #3. Students practice engaging different personality types and audience engagement. Two more leader interviews. Week 7: Presentation Workshop: Give and receive feedback on how to present what you learned. Students refine their final presentations. Week 8: Showcase Presentation: Students present insights from their favorite interview to families and invited guests, and receive their certificates. By the end of this program, your teen will have: -Interviewed 3 accomplished professionals (and their contact info) -A polished presentation they can use for college apps or scholarships -Concrete networking skills most people don't learn until college -Confidence speaking to authority figures and peers -7 peers who share their ambition Mehran is an award-winning international speaker, TEDx coach, top 5% podcaster This program will be held at Hera Hub San Diego
